This feature-length documentary presents the remarkable story of the Ghandian eco-activist and eco-ecologist Dr Vandana Shiva.

The film will be followed by discussion and Q&A with a panel of local experts and enthusiasts to answer questions and share practical tips for growing local.

Come along and meet other people who are interested in growing local, leave feeling encouraged to take the next step in your garden or a garden near you.

We are delighted to introduce our panel members who we will enrich our discussions following the film screening...

Steven Hoephner - Steven discovered his green thumb in 2010 when he accidentally spilt some birdseed on his lawn at a rental unit on the Gold Coast and corn seeds sprouted from the mishap. And he still gets a kick out of every seed that germinates.  He followed his bliss to SA and has spent the past decade developing Wagtail Urban Farm, in Mitchell Park. It’s a micro-scale veggie market garden on land the size of half a house block, growing enough nutritious food to feed 8 families, selling the produce through the Adelaide markets.  It will be great to have Stephen’s update on recent changes at the farm, and his tips for home gardeners on productive gardening.

Emma Sandery - Emma is a local resident who is passionate about environment and community. Growing food at home provides her with a productive and restorative outlet.  Raising her kids with a connection to home produce and the mini ecosystems in our gardens is something close to her heart. For the last 5 years Emma and her family have been running the Seacliff Community Produce Swap, a monthly gathering bringing locals together to share food, seeds, plants and gardening knowledge.  In her day job she runs the Port Environment Centre – a community environment hub.  Emma will help us understand the contribution and practicalities of a Produce swap in building local food systems.

Annette Burmeister - Annette of "Grow Wild Gardens" is a qualified and experienced landscape designer and horticultural consultant specialising in her field, having worked in many areas of the horticulture industry for over 20 years. Annette will be joining us on the night to focus on seeds in particular. We look forward to her insights into GM seeds- hybridised seeds - open pollinated & heirloom seeds - the seeds to collect & the seeds not to collect. She will help us understand consequences of our seed choices for food production & insect survival, which also = our survival.

Peter Heidenreich - Peter will bring to the panel his passion for soil as an ecosystem for growing healthy food. With his years of experience in all things "wormy" he will answer questions and be able to give us tips to enrich our soil at home.  Peter’s interest in worm farming started as a hobby and has now become his business at The Australian Worm Firm.

Julie Preiss - Julie is a bee keeper who completed her training in bee keeping in America. Julie loves educating people about beekeeping and the important role honey bees play in the environment and our overall well-being. Julie will bring us tips about attracting bees to our gardens.
