The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work
Description
Every marriage deserves time and attention. Between work, children, family and everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to lose sight of the friendship and connection that brought you together.
Join Living Vine Psychology & Counselling for this two-day Gottman Method workshop, based on the internationally recognised work of Drs John and Julie Gottman.
In a welcoming and supportive environment, you’ll learn practical skills to strengthen your friendship, improve communication, manage conflict more constructively and deepen your understanding of one another.
This workshop is for couples who want to invest in their relationship before problems arise, as well as those who would like to reconnect and strengthen their marriage. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit.
Over two days, you’ll have the opportunity to step away from everyday demands, focus on your relationship and develop practical tools you can continue using long after the workshop ends.

FAQs
- Will we have to share our personal problems and issues with the class?
No. The class does not include sharing problems or issues publicly. Couple exercises are done privately.
- Must both partners attend or can I come alone?
Since the class involves couples doing exercises together, both partners must participate. If a partner misses a portion of the time he or she may use the Couples exercise time to do part of the exercise and then do the full exercise with their partner later. They may also use the exercise time to read the Seven Principles book.
- My partner isn't a reader. can we still come to the class if he/she wont read the book?
Yes, still come to the class. While the book provide valuable information, the class lectures will summarise the content of the book. Each person will need a couples guide to do the couples exercises efficiently.
- Is this workshop suitable for us, and when might it not be appropriate to attend?
It is suitable for couples who are doing well and want to keep growing together, as well as those who have been experiencing recurring disagreements or feeling less connected and would like to strengthen their relationship.
It is not designed for couples experiencing:
Severe relationship distress,
Emotional abuse,
Domestic violence,
Active addictions (alcohol, drug, sexual, gambling etc.)
Serious mental health problems in one or both partners.
In these circumstances, discernment counselling or individualised couples counselling may be more appropriate.
