The Sickling Feature
Description
In partnership with the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO), the City of Toronto's Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit and the University of Toronto will co-host a screening of the documentary “The Sickling” The film will be followed by a panel discussion focused on the lived experiences of those impacted by Sickle Cell disease and the research and advocacy that has been done to find appropriate treatments. The event will highlight the resilience in those living with Sickle Cell as well as the ongoing efforts to have Sickle Cell disease federally recognized as a disability.
The documentary film THE SICKLING supports the long-term journey of a Toronto sickle cell patient named Gabriel Badjeo as he begins his journey to become one of the first people in the world to experiment with stem cell treatment for this chronic disease.
