Mike McClellan - The Song and Dance Man
Event description
Mike McClellan – The Last Song & Dance?
The term “legendary” is often used to describe a performer whose repertoire consists almost entirely of past hits and creaking recreations of a now irrelevant history. But that could never be said of a Mike McClellan concert. He remains as potent a writer, singer/guitarist as he was when he released his first album way back in 1972.
Though seemingly ageless, with no desire to stop performing, Mike has suggested that this tour will be the last long one he will undertake. His special Flamingos Live lunchtime concert will include songs from his entire career: his classic hit Song and Dance Man, his second, the Vanda and Young produced The One I Love, I Wonder Who You’re Waiting For, from a wonderful series of late career albums, to his powerful Letter To America from his 12th album for which Bob Dylan gave him permission to use one of his lines.
Through this concert he explores his life’s work, the songwriters and players who influenced him and the performers who have recorded his songs. He’s a masterful story-teller who, in the words of reviewer Steve Britt, “holds the audience in the palm of his hand.”
The presenter of A Daily Dose of Musical Medicine on Bay FM 99.9 who had not seen Mike in many years went to his recent 24/25 Woodford Folk Festival concert and wrote:
“I went for nostalgia and curiosity. I left thinking that set will be locked in as a festival highlight. His voice so familiar, like it was in my cells but I’d forgotten. His song writing exquisite and often moving. His voice still exceptional.”
While Mike might not be prepared to suggest he’s packing away his guitar he doubts he’ll pack the suitcase too many more times. Don’t miss him.
