The Speech Sounds of English and How they are Made
Event description
This will be a fun, interactive guide to the speech sounds of English. It is intended for parents, teachers, ESL speakers, and anyone else curious about speech. There will be time for questions and answers.
There are 44 (or thereabouts) sounds of spoken English. What are they? How are they made? What are consonants? vowels? diphthongs? What are voice / voiceless pairs? These questions and more will be answered.
If you want to
- know by what age children should say certain sounds
- help children who are having difficulty pronouncing words
- help children read with phonics
- speak more clearly yourself
- reduce your accent
or if you are just curious about how we form speech sounds, then this might be of interest to you.
