The Sustainability Hive community meeting - Willoughby council and surrounds
Description
We would like to invite you to the inaugural meeting of The Sustainability Hive; Sydney, a volunteer and local-led working group led by educators Vanessa Rendall and Lisa Selbie PhD who are members of the Willoughby City Council Sustainability Advisory Committee.
Vanessa Rendall https://www.linkedin.com/in/vanessa-ryan-rendall-88113615/ is a primary school teacher who specialises in Gifted Education, a passion for sustainability education and author of Bee Detectives.
Lisa Selbie PhD https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisaselbie/ has a background in biotechnology research science, has held academic positions in higher education, and is a sustainability and circular economy advocate with interest in community engagement to drive change.
Our mission is to hold a nurturing, sharing and educating space for diverse groups in our local communities so that together, we can protect everything we love.
With key focus areas of sustainability, environmental impact and community connection, our quarterly meetings will connect you to other like-minded people to not only learn from but to swap ideas and form connections with so that together, we can make a bigger difference to our communities, including schools, local businesses, councils and community organisations.
Our first ask is of course for you to come along, but in the meantime, share with us some achievements you have made at your school/community group or questions you have in one or more of these areas, and to come along to our first meeting where you can meet others in your local network.
Our first meeting will be held on Saturday 25th July from 1:30-3:30pm at the Dougherty Centre (Orchard Room) Chatswood at 7 Victor Street Chatswood. RSVP by Friday 3rd July.
Our guest speakers for this meeting are:
Jacky Lo - founder of Joy of Giving. The Joy of Giving helps instil sustainable values early in life by turning toy swaps into community habits through pop up events, workshops and community toy stations.
Bettina Otterbeck: Bettina is a parent at Cammeray PS who has started the school’s Return and Earn program, supporting not only a fundraising opportunity but also providing education about the importance of recycling
We look forward to meeting you at our first meeting and creating a local network that really sparks ideas, connection and community! Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
Kind Regards,
Vanessa Rendall & Lisa Selbie, Co-leads of The Sustainability Hive.
