The Therapist’s Self-Appearing
A one-day experiential professional development workshop for therapists on the phenomenon of self-appearing in therapeutic work.
This unique workshop invites you to explore the rich, complex phenomenon of how you, as a therapist, emerge in your practice.
Grounded in Six Years of Research
This workshop is based on doctoral research conducted between 2019 and 2025, exploring the lived experiences of twelve seasoned therapists. Through heartfelt, honest conversations, these therapists shared their experiences of noticing themselves appearing in their work. From their stories emerged a compelling framework rooted in the phenomenological philosophy of Martin Heidegger - one that offers a fresh lens for understanding how we appear in our work and how we can use this to find our therapeutic voice and grow in therapeutic wisdom. What You'll Experience
This is not a lecture-based workshop. You will learn from the twelve therapists who participated in the research, but more importantly, you'll learn from yourself and the others in the group. Through experiential exercises and rich group discussions, you'll explore your own moments of self-appearing, your responses and reactions and how these moments offer the possibility of growing as a therapist.
The day will include:
✔ A framework for understanding the phenomenon self-appearing grounded in phenomenological philosophy
✔ Experiential exercises to notice yourself appearing in your practice
✔ Exploration and discussion of experiences of self-appearing
✔ Discussions around pathways for growth in therapeutic wisdom from self-appearing experiences.
An Invitation to Grow
This workshop offers a new pathway for professional development - one that emerges from your own lived experience rather than external expertise. It's an opportunity to discover what lies beyond your habitual ways of practicing, to deepen your therapeutic wisdom, and to strengthen your authentic voice as a practitioner.
Join us for a day of genuine exploration, meaningful connection with colleagues, and transformative insight into the most important therapeutic instrument you possess: yourself.
