Event description

ABOUT TRAVIS JENKINS
Travis
has been studying and playing the guitar for over 25 years. He is a prolific composer and multi-instrumentalist, having written and arranged music for a variety of settings. He studied jazz guitar at JMI with both Bruce Woodward and Ben Hauptmann, achieving academic awards in all 3 years, and in 2015 was a nominee for the Freedman Jazz Fellowship. Currently Travis teaches at JMI (Composition, Guitar, Ensemble) Queensland Conservatorium (Ensembles).

In 2016, Travis assembled together a collection of local composers to offer their written contributions to a song book - “The West End Song Book” - and to join him on stage at JMI Live to perform the compositions in what was then known as “The River City Catfish Band”. The song book was hand written, copied and distributed at the show. Legend has it that some copies are still floating around!

For this upcoming date at JMI, Travis has invited some of his current composition students (among other friends) to revisit the song book, whilst also making new contributions of their own. Joining him on stage will be: Sam Castan (drums), Nick Quigley (double bass), Peter Hunt (trumpet), Max Clark (tenor sax), Pat Atkinson (trombone), and Jordy Stitt (piano).
