The Troubadour Weekend and Verandah Special

    Saturday 16thĀ & Sunday 17thĀ November

    Saturday start time 3.30pm

    Sunday start time 10am

IN BRIEF: Saturday kicks off at 3.30 with a 45 minute set from newcomer Jason Khaw, followed by a full concert length show from Kris Mizzi, which we hope to record for a live album. Then dinner around 6.30, and in the evening Keith Potger presents his celebration of sixty years of The Seekers. On Sunday morning at 10.30 Keith Presents his ā€˜Desert Island Discsā€™ in an interview with Andrew about his life, career and favourite music. 11.45 brings Kris Mizzi back for a shorter set, then lunch then these Greg Champion, Jane Saunders and Margie Russell hit the stage with a fabulous set of favourite Country Folk/ Country Rock music.

After 25 years playing in pubsĀ KRIS MIZZIĀ discovered the folk scene at Newstead Live Music Festival in 2017, where he was instantly voted artist of the year. A captivating singer and songwriter headed for an international career.Ā

KEITH POTGERĀ was a founder member of The Seekers, as well as The New Seekers five years later, and his show this weekend celebrates 60 years of the Seekers with songs and a visual display including many pics that have never been seen in public before.

GREG CHAMPIONĀ is an institution on the Country, Folk and Comedy scenes, a star in Tamworth, a Coodabeen Champion on the radio for 37 years. A sports nut, he scored a hundred in the backyard at Mumā€™s (not true!) and he was the Crowsā€™ no.1 ticket holder in Melbourne for many years. Musically he loves duelling and harmonising with other artists, in particular these two lovely ladies:

JANE SAUNDERSĀ was a hugely successful singer until she retired from the stage to focus on bringing up a family. As a recording artist she made four solo albums and a fifth as part of the trio Saunders Kane and Del. Her album Stranger To Your Heart with half of the songs being her own originals, was nominated for an Aria award in 1995 as Best Country Album. Jane is a champion of the music and singers she grew up with, John Denver, The Byrds, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris, etc., etc.

MARGIE RUSSELLĀ started her music career in her home town of Adelaide, singing advertising jingles, delivering singing telegrams and duetting with Greg Champion in their younger years. She is now a regular on the festival circuit, including dozens of Tamworths. And with her three sisters the quartet performs across South Australia. Give her a melody and Margie will drop onto a harmony like Ash Barty on an overhead smash. With these three singing together this will be a divine afternoon of music, especially for us baby boomers who love the songs of our era and the styles of the artists mentioned above.Ā

And more about Saturday ....Ā Jason KhawĀ grew up in Malaysia and played in a blues and rock cover band until the corporate world took him and his family to Germany and then in 2012 to Australia. His musical influences range from The Beatles to Miles Davis, from Van Morrison to the old Blues masters. He has produced two CDs in the past three years, and is appearing this weekend withĀ Phil Sheppard, a classically trained violinist and bass player.Ā

Unpowered free camping is available. Good showers and toilets.
