The Troubadours and Beyond

Troubadours and Beyond, Songsters of the Middle Ages is a concert of mostly secular music arising from the northern reaches of Europe (the “trouvères” and meister singers) to the southern Occitan and Galician traditions of love and longing.  Crusader-inflected middle-eastern strains, jaunty folk rhythms, bawdy verses and laments of bitter woe will take you through a musical journey of nearly 900 years ago.  You’ll hear lutes, flutes and instruments you have never heard of, but the sung emotions are utterly familiar. Expect rock star composers of the middle ages among others: Hildegard von Bingen, Guillaume de Machaut. And even King Richard the Lionheart. Full program online.
