The Upper Room
Event description
You DO NOT want to miss Upper Room this August! This event is an awesome opportunity to grab a drink, chat to other young adults, and the young at heart, and dive into some relevant topics that don’t usually feature in your Sunday Mass homily! And did we mention free bar snacks?
We are thrilled to be joined by international speaker Amanda Achtman as our guest speaker! Amanda's talk entitled 'Level Up: Learning from the Witness of Bl. Carlo Acutis' will delve into why Carlo is a key witness for our time.
Amanda Achtman was born and raised in Calgary, Canada where she studied liberal arts and political theory. After making a viral political parody video, she moved to Toronto to do a mix of journalism, crowdfunding, and advocacy in defense of Canadians' fundamental freedoms.
Living the alternation between action and contemplation, she then went to Poland to pursue a master's degree in John Paul II Philosophical Studies. Upon returning to Canada, she served as the senior advisor to a member of parliament working to prevent the expansion of euthanasia to persons living with a disability or mental illness.
Amanda then lived in Rome where she studied the resurrection of the dead throughout Jewish tradition in a Licentiate Program in Judaic Studies and Jewish-Christian Relations offered by the Pontifical Gregorian University.
She works with Canadian Physicians for Life on ethics education, teaches a Bioethics course for St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, and is a contributing writer at Public Discourse.
She was a 2023-2024 NextGEN Fellow at Cardus and a 2023-2024 Krauthammer Fellow at the Tikvah Fund. This year, she is a 2025-2026 recipient of the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem Holocaust Educators Scholarship.
Amanda Achtman is the founder of Dying to Meet You, a project of cultural renewal to prevent euthanasia and encourage hope.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of fellowship and formation!
