Event description

The Veggie Empire, a farming duo living with disability, are excited to celebrate International Day of People with Disabilities & Urban Agriculture Month by hosting two guided urban farm tours on;

                              Tuesday the 28th of November 10:00-11:30  &
                              Sunday 3rd of December 11:00-12:30

The duo and the co-operative farming team they are a part of, ‘Caring Farms Co-op,’ have been building their urban farm for ten years. Together they have created a social enterprise that includes a market garden, food plant nursery, revegetation project and worm farming operation. All nestled in the suburb of St Helena!

 Fresh off featuring on Gardening Australia, the duo are ready to showcase their hard work to their community. The tours will involve a guided walk around the farm, nursery, worms farms and revegetation areas, a talk on how they’ve got to where they have and an explanation of the model they have used to get there.

Following the tours catering will be provided.

Seedlings & Produce will be available for purchase :)

These tours were proudly supported by Nillumbik Shire

The Veggie Empire

The Veggie Empire are Scott and Josh; a farming duo living with intellectual disabilities. These two men have used their NDIS support funds to bring in a team of supporting horticulturists to facilitate their vocational aspirations.  Together with community support they have built up a thriving urban farm. The enterprises at the farm have been shaped by the vocational aspirations of the two men and have their support needs embedded throughout. Josh and Scott are both members of Caring Farms Co-Op.

Caring Farms Co-Op is an (in-development) co-operative that collectively manages the urban farm. A non for profit social enterprise its mission is to provide an inclusive and supportive place of work for people otherwise marginalised from the horticultural industry.
