Course Description

The Visual Journal: This course will guide students at any level into developing a regular artistic practice through the visual journal. Students will learn to shoot and print regularly for the creation of a physical journal that includes not only photographs but writing and drawing as well. There will be an emphasis on making daily observations to refine the artist's vision. By the end of this session, students will have a habit of regular practice and a journal to use to develop ideas and advance artistic practice in any medium.

Supplies needed to participate are a notebook or journal appropriate for your preferred medium (like the selection pictured below), a writing implement, and your creative eye.

About the Artist: Jennifer Cantwell

Jennifer Cantwell is a photographic artist based out of Chapel Hill, NC. She was born in Washington DC and has lived in Guadalajara, Mexico, New York City, Santiago, Chile, and many other places in between. As Jennifer has always lived in a multi-racial, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual space, her work focuses on ideas of identity, family, and community. She studied photography at SUNY Purchase and graduated with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCU. She is currently a member of the Orange County Art Guild and shows her work at the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts.
