The What Works Series: Primary Mathematics
Event description
The What Works Series will provide Professional Learning by teachers, for teachers.
Each presenter will share what they have learned from implementing evidence-informed maths and describe what it can look like in the classroom.
Overview
8:30am - Registration and seating
9:00am - Rhys Coulson: Welcome and journey towards a more structured approach in mathematics
9:30am - Brendan Lee: What teachers need to know about the science of maths
10:15am - Morning tea (refreshments, coffee & tea)
10:30am - Martin Ravindran & Samantha Charlton: Mathematics in the Early Years
11:10am - David Morkunas: Building procedural fluency
11:50am - Brad Nguyen: Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract Framework
12:30pm - Lunch (dietary requirements available during the purchase process)
1:00pm - Alex Blanksby: Worked Examples & Self-Explanation Prompts
1:50pm - Caiti Wade: How to Address Word Problems
2:30pm - Q&A
3:00pm - Finish
Tickets are purchased individually at $60 each or in a group of 5 at a $10 discount per ticket (5 for $250).
Brendan Lee and Jeanette Breen have put this event together with the intention of providing quality maths Professional Learning that is practical and affordable. It is a not-for-profit one-off event and all proceeds go towards venue, catering and presenter costs. We are very grateful to all presenters and participants for giving up time on the weekend and committing to improving teaching and learning.
