Event description

The Older Women's Network NSW Seniors Week Event will be a community conversation about ageing and culture.

Treatment of older people and in particular, women, in our contemporary society is a complex and pressing challenge. As a part of Seniors Week, we would like to look at the role of Elders from the lens of different cultural backgrounds.

It will be held at Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative with an aim to bring older women from different cultures together for story-telling about wisdom, ageing, and what ageing means in their culture.

Barbara O'Neill, a Dunghutti woman born on the Gadigal Country of the Eora Nation and currently working as an Aboriginal support worker, will be moderating the circle discussion.

The panel includes Norma Ingram, a proud Wiradjuri Elder, Maha Abdo OAM who serves as the CEO of Muslim Women Australia (MWA), a community-based organisation that caters to the educational, religious, social, recreational and welfare needs of Muslim women from all backgrounds and Vi Pham, Executive Officer of CCCi Marrickville, will be sharing tales of ageing from the Vietnamese community.

It promises to be a vibrant discussion from different cultural perspectives.

Morning tea will be served. We certainly hope you can join us! Please email info@ownnsw.org.au with any dietary requirements and access needs.
