Event description

The works of Tilly Jones is a showcase of the unique, eccentric and engaging works of local musician and composer Tilly Jones. Head to the NRC Concert Room on Saturday the 2nd of December for a Matinee show at 3:30pm.Tilly Jones is an emerging composer and multi-instrumentalist from Lismore, NSW who has performed with musical giants such as James Morrison, Emma Pask, Richard Gill, and has had her works performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Southern Cross Soloists, Lismore Symphony Orchestra, and the Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra.

A student of the Northern Rivers Conservatorium since 2011, Tilly has been a member of the World Music Ensemble, Chamber Strings, Youth Jazz Orchestra, and Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra, all these ensembles having played her music. Her music has taken her overseas to France and the US, where she was commissioned by Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival in Austin Texas. In 2022, she was commissioned by the ABC and Northern Rivers Conservatorium to compose ‘Resounding’, which was featured nationally in the ‘Mud and Music’ story by Leah White, in response to the devastating effect of the 2022 floods on the Northern Rivers music community, and the efforts of Rachel Hocking and Resound organisation in bringing the music back to the area. Having completed her Bachelor of Contemporary Music in Composition at Southern Cross University, Tilly is working towards releasing a 5 track debut EP in early 2024. Pieces from this EP. among others will be performed by emerging local talent at this concert on the 2nd of December. From an energising, klezmer inspired piece for clarinet quintet, to a moody classical piece for flute and piano, and beyond to an upbeat jazz-fusion banger for jazz quintet; this concert will take you on a journey through Tilly’s musical world as she performs her pieces, many for the first time, alongside her friends and colleagues at her 2nd home, the Northern Rivers Conservatorium.
