Event description

The Yarns Men hosts a Christchurch based men only monthly meetup.

This is an opportunity for men from all walks of life to hear an inspirational guest speaker and have a yarn over some food.

Our March speaker is Grant Walker. Grant is far from your typical ultra-runner. Just a few years ago, the idea of him running long distances seemed far-fetched—especially considering he was the last person you’d expect to be tackling something like the Moab 240 Ultra-marathon! Yet, at the end of 2023, he completed this brutal 240-mile (397km) race across two mountain ranges and through the Utah desert, where only half of the competitors even finish.

Now, having recently completed his 10th ultra-marathon, finished a full Ironman, and even learned to swim in open water, Grant has proven that everyday people can achieve extraordinary feats. As a Dad, Business Owner, and recreational runner, he’s made small but powerful changes in his life that led to big results.

Come along to hear how he pushed his limits, faced epic challenges, learned to dream big, and how his journey can inspire us all to tackle tough moments, get back up when we fall, and apply those lessons to all areas of our lives.

Tickets are $22.50 to cover the cost of chicken wings, chips and beer (low, non-alc, cider or 2 soft drinks if preferred).

What to expect with The Yarns Men event:

  • To run for approximately 1.5 hours
  • Food from the Food Dude (who runs the food truck at Two Thumb Manchester Street)
  • Hear Grant's story
  • Be open to having a yarn with new people
  • The following questions will be posed to the group, and breakout into pairs to discuss:
  1. What have you struggled with in the last week?
  2. What’s something you want to work on next week?
  3. What are you proud of?
  4. What gives you hope?
