“If they heard us talking, people'd think we were mad.”
“Maybe we are. Or else everyone else is.”
The Year My Voice Broke is raw, bittersweet, and at moments dark. It is a portrait of the joys and woes of teenage life in 1960s rural New South Wales.
Originally written as a film by John Duigan in the 80s shot entirely in Braidwood and surrounds, this is a coming of age tale of adolescent love. It follows the three central characters as they stumble through a year of high school under the scrutiny of their conservative small town, the repressive control of their parents, and their own simple yet consequential mistakes.
Following a sold-out run in Sydney, the cast and crew of The Year My Voice Broke, comprised of members of the Sydney University Dramatic Society, are thrilled to be bringing this production to Braidwood. We can't wait to showcase this adaptation of a local classic for the community.
