The Yoga of Writing with Alina Hughes

This course is suitable for experienced and non-experienced writers. It is for anyone who yearns to find their voice, to meet with like-minded others and to explore together the mysteries of life. We will meet you where you are with interest, curiosity, compassion and a great deal of support to be yourself.

Drawing on her extensive experience as a yoga teacher trainer and her understanding of ancient yogic wisdom, Alina offers a variety of practices to help you bring your whole self to the act of writing. She creates a safe space in which to facilitate new discoveries, inspire creative possibilities and emerge as a more integrated human being.

“I approach writing as a practice, in much the same way as I come to my yoga mat or meditation cushion. Sometimes I turn up at the page reluctantly, other times with eager anticipation, never quite sure of where the writing will take me on any particular day. On the page, I allow myself to stretch, flex, extend, bend, tense, feel into and release words freely onto the page. Sometimes they appear in perfect alignment and at other times I can’t quite achieve the right balance. So I simply adjust as necessary, keep the pen moving, lean into where the energy seems to want to go. Eventually every level of my being is involved, fully engaged, integrated and in flow. Bliss!”

The practice of writing has the power to bring us home to ourselves, to untangle confusion, to reconnect with our truth. It is an act of intimacy, a process of discovery, a way of resolving inner conflict and helps build a strong spine for walking in a world of increasing uncertainty.

What to bring: A simple A4 or A5 journal with lined pages, a pen that writes smoothly and a water bottle. Non-restrictive clothing is also recommended.
