Event description

Theatre of Thought

Directed by Werner Herzog |USA | 2022 | 107 min | Documentary | Rated PG

Australian Premiere

Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog sets his sights on yet another mysterious landscape—the human brain—for clues as to why a hunk of tissue can produce profound thoughts and feelings while considering the philosophical, ethical, and social implications of fast-advancing neural technology.

What will be the impact of technology on the human mind? What will a brain be in the future? Will it be possible to read the mind? Gathering insight and predictions from some of the world’s most influential scientists and innovators, Theatre of Thought is an exploration of the ethical, and existential, effects that neurotechnology presents in our rapidly advancing world.

The screening will be preceded by a mindfulness meditation session guided by Melli O'Brien, an educator,  entrepreneur, co-founder of Mindfulness.com and creator of the deep resilience method. Her courses, retreats and app have helped over a million people globally. She is on a mission to make the world mentally stronger.

“In one of his best docs yet, Werner Herzog turns his lens on the world of the brave new world of brain-computer interfaces, their therapeutic breakthroughs and chilling potential consequences.” The Hollywood Reporter

“Theatre of Thought is timely, significant and fascinating.” - POV Magazine
