The jazz doof Vol 4 - Modern Jazz and Soul Festival
Event description
After three packed-out nights of music and movement, we return for the final instalment of our Jazz Doof residency a 12-hour celebration of modern jazz, soul, and culture. It's also the founder of Moor Music events birthday for this one too, so we've summoned some of our favourites acts and collaborators from over the years to celebrate the occasion, alongside some recently discovered acts to wrap up what has been some of the most excellent few months. It's giving house party in da club, light the beacons, we'll sort the vibes.
At the centre of it all: music that moves you. Deep live sets, improvised chaos, broken rhythms, extended builds, and DJs who understand the room. Some moments are made to dance, others to listen. But all of them are designed for presence for losing track of time and finding something in the groove.
We’re transforming the warehouse once again with a new theme and full set design by Ashton Woodbury (@ashtonwoodbury), whose immersive work has helped define the look and feel of this series. The Industrique will feel familiar, but completely reimagined.
The theme for this one is : Tarianto Films 🌹 Come as you are, or commit to the bit.
And yes, Miles Danger our mechanical bull ride will return!
LIVE ACTS
ALEXANDER FLOOD (@alexander_flood)
One of Australia’s most forward-thinking drummers. Flood blends jazz, broken beat, house, funk and club energy into a live set that’s rhythm-first and genre-fluid. With releases on Stretch Music, Jakarta Records and Atjazz, he’s pushing jazz into the future — one tightly locked groove at a time.
JUPiTA + SWAMP (@jupita)
Swampy, soulful and powerful, Jupita leads one of Naarm’s most magnetic live projects. Their sound is wide open: electric, heavy and impossible to pin down.
LANI ZIMMER (@lanizimmer)
Neo-soul with old soul depth. Lani brings vintage vocal tone and modern songwriting together, blending jazz heritage with present-day honesty.
UNCOMFORTABLE SCIENCE (@uncomfortablescience)
Improvised experimental jazz led by Laneous. No rehearsals. No safety net. Just pure musical trust and some of the tightest players in the game. The band will feature, Horatio Luna, On-ly, Cam Tonkin, Lewis Hosie, Laneous.
BILL EVANS TRIO TRIBUTE – Portrait in Jazz
A considered nod to a classic. A moment of breath. A chance to connect to the roots. Led by Ryley Duncan.
ALGBRA
Broken-beat jazz-house played live. Deep grooves with forward motion. Sophisticated but unpretentious.
