Event description

Exploring Why Theology Matters — Book Launch and panel discussion on Theology Matters

The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture is proud to host the launch of Theology Matters, a compelling collection of stories from prominent Australians, co-authored by Peter Sherlock and Daniel Nellor.

The launch, taking place at 6:00pm on Thursday, 10 July, will feature a panel discussion that includes Peter Sherlock, broadcaster and author Stan Grant, public theologian Robyn Whitaker, and former ACT Supreme Court judge Richard Refshauge, and will be moderated by Genevieve Jacobs.

In the twenty-first century, religion is often seen as divisive, church membership is in decline, and religious institutions have been forced to reckon with their own sins. Yet theology still speaks deeply to many people in Australia, both inside and outside the Christian churches.

This book presents a series of conversations with prominent Australians including Frank Brennan, Anne Pattel-Gray, and Kevin Rudd about how theological ideas and religious practices inform their contribution to public life. Through their stories, it asks the ultimate question: what difference does theology make?

In the spirit of Yindyamarra, the evening will honour thoughtful dialogue and deep listening as we work towards building communities where all of creation flourishes.

The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, as host of this landmark event, reaffirms its commitment to fostering theological discussion in public life.
