Our Therapeutic Movement & Mindfulness Program (formerly our TSY program) supports those who have experienced trauma and are seeking yoga, somatic and mindfulness-based practices as an adjunctive to clinical or therapeutic treatment.

You will learn:

Practices and skills to manage and respond to stress, anxiety and symptoms of trauma
Tools to reconnect to a sense of balance in your body
Supportive guidance to increase awareness and connection with your embodied experience
Practical therapeutic interventions to integrate into day-to-day life
Psycho-education around the nervous system and regulation

Our Approach:

Our approach to program design and facilitation is strengths-based, trauma-informed, mental health aware and gender and culture responsive.
The structure and content of our programs is informed by research and education regarding the intersection between these frameworks and somatic, mindfulness and yoga-based practices.
We are a proudly LGBTQIA+ affirming organisation and our sessions are inclusive of all bodies and all needs.
Participants in our program receive additional support through pre-recorded video content and a digital handbook of yoga and somatic resources to use at home.

What to expect:

Gentle movements and invitations so that you can practice in the way you need to on any given day
Everybody is welcome - no prior experience of yoga, somatics or mindfulness is required
A balance of therapeutic tools and embodiment practices
The group setting offers a sense of connection and community, but the focus is on your individual experience - there’s no group discussion
Our program workbook supplements your participation and includes practices and psycho-education to support your continued embodiment of the content
Highly skilled and qualified facilitators experienced in guiding trauma-informed practices and supporting different experiences within a group

Sessions:

Participants are welcome to arrive early to Reid Room for a cup of herbal tea or to settle in.
Each session starts with an introduction to that week’s focus, followed by a guided check-in and movement and mindfulness practice. We finish with a closing check-in.
Each session builds on the last, helping you slowly deepen your awareness and reconnect with your body.

Week 6: Balance and stability

Week 7: Moving towards comfort

Additional supports include:

Intake and closing calls with our Programs Coordinator, Alexia (they/them)
A program workbook with practices and reflections to use at home
Pre-recorded video practices
Weekly emails during the program
Sensory toys, pencils, textas, and paper during each session

Accessibility

There is ramp access at the back of the building, and a wheelchair accessible toilet next to the Reid Room.

Bathrooms are gender neutral.

About your facilitator:

Mykah (they/them) lives on unceded lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Mykah holds a Masters in Psychotherapy and Counselling and has worked for over 3 years as a Psychotherapist at a Naarm based addiction hospital, specialising in individual and community care.

For over a decade, they have been facilitating private and public workshops with a focus on community-based trauma-informed somatics.

Participant investment:

Tier 1: $405 (for those who are financially secure)
Tier 2: $335 (for those who are financially resourced)
Tier 3: $255 (for those on low incomes and/or with caring responsibilities)

As a non-profit organisation, we do not generate any profit from our programs. The fees charged for this course cover delivery costs only. This means that we require at least 8 fee-paying participants enrolled for the program to be viable.
