Description

Come and hear from some local Dads doing some great things in our community and beyond.

About this event

"There's Nothing Wrong With Me" is something we constantly hear at Rockstar Dads, hence the title for these talks. We all have our good days and our bad days, but who's to say that there's something wrong with you just because you're having a bad day? Well, there's not, and regardless of what you're going through it's highly likely that you're normal just like the rest of us and we're going through similar things as you.

There doesn't have to be something wrong with you to come to an event like this, but why wait until there is something wrong with you... right? This is our second talk in this series of talks where we will hear from Dads from all walks of life that are contributing to our community in one way or another.

50% of all tickets sold will be donated to The Man Walk Australia Incorporated.

The Man Walk is a registered not-for-profit charity and is a simple concept designed to strengthen communities, build social capital, and combat isolation by connecting men to walk, talk and support. The Man Walk allows men to get together and walk and talk in a positive and inclusive environment where there is no judgment, pressure, or expectations. Just turn up when you feel like it, walk and talk with a group of like-minded blokes.

Ash Druery - Strength From Vulnerability

Ash is a 40-year-old single dad with two children aged 11 and 7. He sits on the committee of The Man Walk Australia Incorporated and is the Bowral Manbassador for The Man Walk. Ash also sits on the South Western Sydney Suicide Prevention committee, is a co-facilitator for Dads in Distress, and is a member of The Men's Table Berrima/Bundanoon. Until recently Ash worked in the mental health space as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Coach with Beyond Blue. Ash has also had his struggles, is a recovering alcoholic, and has been sober for three years now. Ash will be talking about strength from vulnerability and resilience in men.

Monty Badami – Opening up, Owning Your Shit & Being There for Your Mates

Dr. Sumant Badami (or Monty as he is known to most) is a Dad, Anthropologist, and the Founder of Habitus. Habitus is a social enterprise using programs, workshops and experiences to build a greater awareness and appreciation for what it truly means to ‘be human’. Using anthropology, emotional intelligence and educational psychology, Habitus exists to bring back our ability to; think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others and find creative solutions to complex problems. Monty helps teachers, students and parents to embrace their humanity and make meaningful changes in their lives. He works closely with men and boys, running Rites of Passage programs and immersive workshops that give you lifehacks to be a good human! Monty will be talking about why it's important for us to talk, share our stories, and why we shouldn't wait until there's something wrong with us to talk.

Michael Collins - The Men's Table

The Men’s Table is a registered charity that creates a unique environment for men to share openly about their lives, their challenges, their highs and lows with a group of men who they learn to trust and respect. Creating a sense of belonging, community, peer support, and camaraderie that is lacking for many men, even for some who already have a group of mates. The Men’s Table Network is the community of men from all Men’s Tables who can share, learn, connect and collaborate based on mutual needs, interests, geographies, careers, and life circumstances. Michael will be talking about what The Men's Table is all about and why belonging to a Men’s Table contributes to mental, emotional, and social wellbeing whilst being powerful support to individual members traveling their life journeys.
