These Idle Hands + The Wicked Messenger + Clare Cowley
Event description
These Idle Hands is an elusive kind of sonic event: a bottled blend of lightning and synergy that will excite fans of multiple genres & eras, well…hopefully. Their luminous acoustic balladry & harrowingly intimate lyricism combine to craft often hauntingly retrospective Alt folk.
If this all sounds a bit dark, don’t worry, they’ll be little shards of sunshine filtering in throughout the set, we promise.
TIH have received high praise air play, both here & overseas for their two full length album release’s, Petrichor & Meraki and are soon to release their third, self titled album later this year. They were also previous finalists in The Gold Coast Music Awards, in the category of Release of the Year for their album Meraki.
"These Idle Hands will pull you in and hold you close like a warm, familiar embrace"
- Beat Mag
"These Idle Hands music, much like fine wine, to be imbibed and savoured within the shadowy twilight of self-reflection and contemplation"

The Wicked Messenger is a collaboration of Brisbane musicians Jimi Beavis (The Holy Rollercoasters) and Jane McEniery (The Good Ship, Doch), playing carefully constructed and confessional quiet folk to jangle rock in what has been described as “wholesome but depressing”. So while they are singing sad songs, there is a balance of solemn contemplation and optimism, as well as playful and lovely banter between the couple and their band between songs.
Clare Cowley is a song-writer originally from Allora, Queensland, based in Meanjin/Brisbane. With ‘delicately powerful vocals’, Cowley summons the spirit of folk music. Her performances feature bluesy guitar playing, smoky piano and harmonica. HAPPY MAG says, "Her songwriting holds a rare hypnotic quality, enchanting listeners with sing-along abilities evoking the likes of Norah Jones and Sarah Blasko. In 2023, produced by Dylan Jeffreys, Clare’s sophomore album, Desire Notes has been celebrated with sellout shows in intimate venues across Qld and NSW.
