Event description

Think Voice features guest speakers and multicultural affairs subject matter experts from diverse backgrounds taking part in a facilitated conversation on issues of connection with First Nations peoples and communities.

The conversation will focus on the referendum to vote on a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to Parliament that will be happening late in 2023.

What does that mean to and for multicultural communities in Australia?

The filmed event allows guests to participate through sharing expertise and asking questions; sharing thoughts, hopes and fears that people of different ages, and cultural backgrounds may have in relation to the outcome of the referendum for Indigenous constitutional recognition.

Think Voice aims to connect and empower participants and viewers, giving them the knowledge and language to challenge current conversations around identity and inclusion.

Think Voice is a collaboration between Just Gold and Myriad Kofkin Global as part of our commitment to the Yes campaign for Indigenous Constitutional Recognition.

      Background

In 2017 the Referendum Council organised the First Nations National Constitutional Convention. Over 250 Indigenous peoples gathered at Uluru to consider what constitutional recognition might look like. This is where the Uluru Statement from the Heart was born. The Statement calls for an enshrined Voice in the Constitution, and a process of agreement-making that must include Voice, Treaty, Truth.

referendum to vote on a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to Parliament will be happening late in 2023.

The referendum  answers the how of recognition – how Australia will recognise First Nations Peoples.

A successful yes vote will require Parliament to establish a Voice for First Nations Peoples in their own affairs.  It is only one small step towards closing the gap and recognising that it is First Nations People who have the knowledge, wisdom and expertise to address the issues facing their communities.

Australia was founded on ‘terra nullius’ – a lie that diminishes all of us as a nation to this day.

Voice, treaty and truth offers all of us an opportunity to acknowledge the true history of this country and work towards healing with honesty and integrity.
