Description

The southern New England Orogen (SNEO) structural configuration has been debated for many years because it preserves an Early Permian oroclinal “ear”, defined by 4 crustal oroclinal bends. This review focuses on the southern half of that structure and presents a model that integrates structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, geochronology, glaciation, and igneous activity to produce a coherent story of Early Permian SNEO development. A new tectonic model is proposed that addresses many of the past problems identified in the SNEO literature.

The speaker: Lindsay has well over 40 years’ experience as a geologist and his career has focused on the geology of mineral resources and fostering mineral exploration and discovery in NSW. Much of his career was with the Geological Survey of New South Wales where he was Director from 2005 to 2009. In later retirement he divides his time among coordinating the Hunter Valley Socratic Society, family history, helping with Hunter Pi in the Sci, the SMEDG Committee, the Discoveries in the Tasmanides conference, and investigating geology plus writing, walking, wining and whisky (Islay single malt, of course).
