Thinning of the Veil
Event description
Thinning of the Veil is your new favorite tradition. Over the past three years, this production has become a staple as one of CNY's highly anticipated seasonal events. Thinning of the Veil is unlike anything else you've experienced. This theatrical production is the epitome of immersive art, it combines dance and 3d installation works that are sure to engulf and captivate the audience.
About the Show:
Deviant Productions presents its third iteration of Thinning of the Veil, a guided walking tour where audience members are immersed in performance & visual art. Each audience member will be asked to wear a paper masquerade mask, a "veil", through which they will experience the show. A guide will walk the audience through each installation where performers will meet them. The “veil,” that each audience member will engage through, allows them to feel disconnected from and immersed in the performance. The artistic vision is to create a space where the audience has the opportunity to view performance in a new and unique way. This is a show for the senses. It is not intended to be scary, instead, the feeling is eerie, beautiful, and surreal. Begin your spooky season with this spine-tingling production that will leave you feeling inspired.
Deviant Productions is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of traditional performance arts through innovative collaborations and interdisciplinary approaches. With a focus on creating immersive and engaging experiences, Deviant Productions brings together artists from various fields to explore new artistic horizons and expand community connection and support.
Thinning of the Veil is made possible by the dedicated Deviant Production leaders Lisa Price and Lee Spencer along with the team at Art at the Atrium. We extend our gratitude to our supporters, including CNY Arts, Linda Osborne, and our loyal Syracuse dance community.

CNY Arts has partnered with Chashama, a New York City-based art organization committed to providing affordable venues for artists to exhibit their work. In collaboration with the City of Syracuse, and with additional support from the Central New York Community Foundation, CNY Arts and Chashama have repurposed the City Hall Commons Atrium, located across from Hanover Square, to provide a multidisciplinary gallery and programming space for Central New York Artists. In addition to providing subsidies, Chashama is also actively involved in the transformation and the management of each space. Support provided by Chashama covers administrative fees, costs associated with buildouts and accessibility improvements, and artist honorariums, too. In Persian, Chashama means “inspiration.” Founded in 1995 by performing artist Anita Durst, Chashama partners with property owners to convert unused real estate for a variety of creative applications, including exhibits, classes, and studios, specifically emphasizing access and equity for artists who may not otherwise have an opportunity to share their work with the public or develop their craft in a functional workspace. The grant from Chashama will enable CNY Arts to implement a diverse program schedule and broaden visibility for resident Syracuse artists by providing new opportunities for access and exhibition.
