Event: Art Kintsugi Workshop with Yoko Kawada
Are you curious about Japan’s ancient art of embracing imperfection? Please join our Art Kintsugi Workshop with Yoko Kawada at Thirst Exhibition.
Kintsugi, ‘golden joinery,’ is a centuries-old Japanese craft where broken pots are repaired using lacquer mixed with powdered gold. It draws from wabi-sabi, a philosophy that honours beauty in the flawed, the worn, the cast-aside. As an artistic practice, Kintsugi transforms much loved, worn items into beautifully crafted, new works of art. Kintsugi also encourages living in more sustainable ways through the rescue of things that ordinarily we throw out without a second thought.
In this workshop, you will learn the seven fundamental steps that comprise the ‘Art Kintsugi’ technique using accessible materials. We also present the history and philosophy behind Kintsugi along with the many possibilities for its use in design and creative projects.
