15 Contemporary Asian ceramicists, 100 unique handcrafted wares

Overdue Studio and independent Newtown bookstore Between Lines present Thirst, an exhibition highlighting contemporary Asian craftmanship and culture. Features 100 handcrafted wares by contemporary designers from Japan, Taiwan and Korea embracing ceramics as a response to single-use, throw-away culture.

During Sydney Design Week (15-22 Sep), we will host a Japanese Tea Ceremony, Chinese Tea Appreciation and Art Kintsugi workshops with the goal of facilitating connection that was inhibited by the pandemic.

Are you curious about Chinese tea culture? Want to learn more about the art of Gongfu tea? Please come to our Tea Appreciation Workshop with Topotea at Thirst Exhibition.

Originating in the tea houses of the Fujian and Chaoshan regions of southern China, Gongfu Cha ('skilful tea-making') consists of the ritual brewing and presentation of tea. Gongfu Cha uses smaller teapots and cups in contrast to those used in western-style tea making, and are set out in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement during the ceremony. These days you may enjoy Gongfu Cha in tea houses where connoisseurs, using more expensive types of leaves, make tea in a way that greatly enhances its flavour.
