This is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan

In 1982 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the wealthy, articulate, pot-smoking teenagers who were small children in the ’60s have emerged as young adults in a country that has just resoundingly rejected everything they were brought up to believe in. The very last wave of New York City’s ’60s-style liberalism has come of age—and there’s nowhere left to go.

Funny, painful, and compassionate, This is Our Youth captures the moment between adolescence and adulthood when young people step into the world on their own, armed with ideas far more sophisticated than their parents realize—and far less effective than they imagine.

This production features Luke Kissick, Jack Mallett, and Katie Van Riper, and is directed by Moshe Henderson.

Developed through scene study and rehearsal within the HB Studio community, including work originating in the classroom of Trudy Steibl, this production reflects a sustained engagement with the play in performance, shaped by the language-driven, actor-centered writing of Kenneth Lonergan, an HB Studio alumnus.

As a 2026 Hosted Company at HB Studio, Basement Theatrics is an artist-led collective focused on rigorous, rehearsal-based theater making.
