Event description

Exhibitions Opening Night
Australian Design Centre presents three new major exhibitions with work by Indigenous artists from across Australia launching on 22 May.

Gallery 1
Threads: Lore and Lineage
Threads: Lore and Lineage is presented in partnership with the National Indigenous Art Fair. Tradition and contemporary practice are woven together like threads in a tapestry in work from eight leading Indigenous Art Centres.

Gallery 2
GULAMANMANHA (bringing something closer) wajarri language
A powerful collection of cloaks and body adornments made in a collaboration between Yamaji Art, designer Nicole Monks and Community in response to ancestral belongings to be returned.

Object Space Yaama Yassou
Yaama (hello in Suzy’s Gomeroi language) and Yassou (hello in Greek) is a collaboration between designer Suzy Evans and Adam France. Parthenons made of eucalyptus trees, echidna climbing out of Greek vases and emu clashing with Spartan armies are hand printed onto textile to create elegant pendant lamps.
