Through the Eras Kiki Ball
Event description
Through the Eras Kiki Ball is a journey inspired by the 9 historical eras of ballroom, each represented by various colours. These eras provide the inspiration for each of the night's categories and themes - with each category calling for a monochromatic ensemble corresponding to the era's colour. Each category will provide a short and sweet history lesson for all those attending - with our walkers being able to pay tribute to those who have laid the path before them with their effects and performance.
House of Dawn’s vision is to see Aotearoa’s ballroom scene thrive by welcoming new generations to the scene and honouring the legacy of the trans and queer people of colour who pioneered ballroom here, and the black and latinx trans women who originated ballroom in the United States.
This would be the second kiki ball and series of workshops hosted by the House of Dawn, following the BK2SCHOOL Kiki Ball which took place at Grey Lynn Library Hall in October of 2023. This event saw an entirely new generation of ballroom emerge onto the scene and since has inspired a drive for further spaces merging the several generations of Aotearoa Ballroom into one.
