Speakers

Carol Vale - Carol Vale is a Dunghutti entrepreneur, businessperson, CEO (Chief Executive Officer), empathetic and visionary leader, and co-founder of Murawin. Carol’s passion, determination and commitment have driven her impressive 40-year career as a specialist in intercultural consultation, facilitation, and participatory engagement. Carol specialises in working with clients across a range of industries to enhance their organisational capacity through social research, community consultations, stakeholder engagement and evaluation services. She provides practical tools and professional services to her clients that are culturally sensitive, and outcome focused and reflects her experience (including three decades in the public sector), history and culture. Carol has worked in senior management in Aboriginal Affairs, education, housing, disabilities, and child protection.

Kat Henaway - Kat Henaway was born and raised in Indigenous communities in Cairns and is a descendant of the Meriam and Mua people of the Torres Strait Islands. She has gained significant experience working in multinational organisations in Sydney, London, and Edinburgh for organisations such as Andersons, ABN Amro, Société Générale in Australia, EY and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and The Pensions Regulator in UK. Kat is an entrepreneur and specialises in Indigenous Business Consulting and Business Advisory. She is also Director of Politics in Colour and Blax Capital and holds leadership roles with Women & Leadership Australia and the First Nations Gender Justice Institute.

Michelle Deshong – Michelle has been a business owner for over 15 years and has been on the board of Supply Nation for the past five years, with seven months as interim CEO in 2023. Originally from Townsville, North Queensland drawing connection to Kuku Yalanji nation, Michelle is also a Board Member at Queensland First Nations Treaty Institute. Michelle has extensive experience in areas of leadership, governance, and politics, and holds several directorship roles in the not-for-profit sector and has most recently been appointed as a Board Member at Queensland First Nations Treaty Institute.

Sarah Hyland - Sarah Hyland, an Anaiwan woman from Uralla in Northwest New South Wales (NSW), is the Founder of Together Business. As a practicing Chartered Accountant with a strong background in accounting, finance, and business advisory, she has plays a pivotal role in empowering Indigenous entrepreneurs and setting Indigenous-led businesses up for financial success. Her dedication to fostering economic growth and self-determination within First Nations communities is reflected in her work, servicing Indigenous businesses of all shapes and sizes across the country. Sarah is committed to creating an inclusive business environment where cultural heritage and traditional knowledge are valued. Through Together Business, she provides mentorship, guidance, and essential resources to help Indigenous entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of the business world.
