Timothy Wayne-Wright Singing Workshop
Description
World renowned a cappella specialist Timothy Wayne-Wright will deliver an intensive two-day workshop for singers, designed to enhance skills in unaccompanied group singing. A Grammy Award-winning artist, Tim has performed over 1,500 concerts worldwide as a member of The King’s Singers and brings more than 30 years of professional singing experience at the highest international level. He is also a highly regarded educator, having led over 500 workshops and masterclasses world-wide.
A key focus will be on expressive communication, with participants discovering how vocal colour, phrasing, and musical intention can deepen audience engagement. Through practical exercises and group work, Tim will provide tools to help singers connect more meaningfully with both the music and their listeners. The program will cater to singers of varying experience levels, creating an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages both individual growth and collective music-making.
The workshop will run for two full days, 26 and 27 September, from 9-5 each day. There will be breaks for tea and lunch on site.
Participants in the workshop will learn their notes through four preparatory workshops from late August to late September, hosted at the Yeppoon Community Centre and on Zoom.
Three preparatory workshops are scheduled 2-5pm on Saturday 29/08, 12/09 and 19/09 at the Yeppoon Community Centre, and one is scheduled from 7-9pm at the Capricorn Uniting Church on Thursday 24/09.
We will plan to prepare three pre-selected songs. Sheet music, a tutti track, and audio teaching tracks for each part will be made available online to you for free download once you register for the workshop.
Requirements for attendees: By registering, you will be agreeing to learn the music prior to the workshop. You will need to attend at least two of the preparatory workshops, either in person or (for remote attendees) via Zoom. If you are unable to attend two rehearsals but still wish to participate, you may request special permission before registering by writing to the organisers (email: tww.ycs@gmail.com).
Workshop fees: Registration for the two days is $50 for Yeppoon Choral Society members, or $60 for non-members. (YCS membership is available for only $50 per year; perhaps you want to consider joining?). If you wish to purchase lunches for the two days, that will be an additional $20, or you are free to bring your own lunch. Going out for lunch isn't really a good option, considering the day's schedule.

- Why do I need to learn the music before the workshop?
The primary purpose of the workshop is to help participants build new skills. We're asking each participant to commit to learning their parts before the workshop in order to make the best use of Tim's expertise.
- I'm confident I can learn the music on my own, so why do I need to attend two rehearsals?
Being part of a choir means that each part has to fit in and blend with the other parts and other singers, so knowing the notes of your part well is only the first step, You need to attend rehearsals in order to get a feel for the music as choral music and to know what you need to do to blend with the rest of the choir.
- I'm too far away to get to a rehearsal in person, but how will it work on Zoom?
Attending on Zoom won't be nearly as useful as being there in person. However, you'll be able to hear how the in person attendees are singing and blending, and hear the instructions and tips from the conductor, which will give you at least a taste of the choral experience. With your microphone muted, you'll be able to sing along. It will be far better if you can join us for rehearsals in Yeppoon, but we hope Zoom participation will be sufficient to get you ready.
