Tipapa Historic Homestead Tour
Part of the 2022 Hurunui Garden Festival
Owner-guided tours of historic Tipapa Homestead will be held each day during the Hurunui Garden Festival, October 27th to October 30th, 2022. Homestead tours are limited to 10 persons. Persons wishing to tour the homestead must also purchase entry to the garden - see below.
Tipapa Homestead was built in 1928 to the design of noted NZ architect Heathcote Helmore. Tipapa's design was inspired by the architecture of the American east coast, where Helmore spent time on his way to the UK. A very modern home at the time it was built, Tipapa still reflects clean lines and simple elegance. The homestead is surrounded by sweeping lawns and beautiful gardens.
Owners Stewart or Jane will guide you through their home, pointing out original and interesting features, and telling you the story of changes since the 1880's. They will highlight the architectural features which make Tipapa such a beautiful home and wonderful example of the architect's style. You will catch a glimpse of the guest rooms, but private areas and rooms occupied by houseguests are not included in the tour.
Tours will be held each day at 10am, 11am, 12, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Private areas and rooms occupied by houseguests are not included in the tour. Please note that persons wishing to tour the homestead must also purchase a $10 Hurunui Garden Festival entry ticket to enter the grounds. This entitles them to a self-guided tour of the gardens and woolshed. Garden entry tickets can be purchased in cash on the day, or online in advance at www.hurunuigardenfestival.com.
