The Story of Palestine
Event description
In order for me to write poetry that isn’t political
I must listen to the birds
and in order to hear the birds
the warplanes must be silent.
– Marwan Makhoul, Palestinian Poet
Join us for a special screening of the must see film 1948: Creation to Catastrophe.
We all know there are two sides to every story. Come take a journey with us to find out the beginnings of the Palestine-Israel conflict with moving personal stories from both Palestinians and Israelis. This well researched, engaging and informative film is undoubtedly an important and poignant guide for understanding the present day situation.
We will also be joined by Dr Adel Yousif, a Palestinian Australian lecturer at UTAS, for a QnA.
As Nelson Mandela famously stated "But we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians".
This is a reflection for the whole world for it is our humanity that is at stake.
