Toddler to Teens; Nurturing Emotional Regulation - a Parent Workshop

Event description

Understanding and managing emotions is crucial for children and teens. Strong emotional regulation skills lead to higher self-esteem, better social skills, and healthier relationships. However, like learning to tie shoelaces or riding a bike, kids need help building these skills. That's where co-regulation comes in.

Parents often find it challenging to help their kids navigate emotions, from tantrums to the teen rollercoaster. Adolescence, with its rapid physical and emotional changes, brings unique challenges. As a psychologist, Nicole sees the importance of supporting children and teens in developing emotional regulation skills. While therapy plays a valuable role in nurturing a child's emotional regulation skills, significant transformations occur in how parents and caregivers respond during everyday interactions with their children

Join psychologist Nicole Dorrington for a workshop that empowers caregivers by providing practical strategies for nurturing emotional development. From understanding brain development to fostering open communication, the workshop will equip parents with the tools they need to support their child's emotional well-being. The workshop aims to provide caregivers with:

  1. Insights into relationship-based strategies for co-regulating with your child
  2. Understanding the neuroscientific foundations of emotions and brain development from babies to teens
  3. Guidance on co-regulating with your child at different stages of emotional development
  4. Techniques for fostering your child’s emotional development and regulation whilst strengthening the parent-child bond
  5. Proactive strategies for assisting children when they become overwhelmed by emotions or withdraw
  6. Learn strategies for open and constructive communication with your teenager.
  7. Understand how to create a safe space for expressing emotions.
  8. Insight into parents’ emotions and increasing your own emotional regulation skills
  9. Hands on activities to effectively apply your newfound knowledge and skills

What you will learn about co-regulation will support all parent-child relationships. This learning forms foundational building blocks of intervention for capacity building. Intervention with allied health professionals can then build on these concepts and be tailored to your child’s specific needs.

Use this workshop as your intervention strategy, to support current interventions you are already accessing or while you are waiting for therapy to commence.

This workshop may be claimable on NDIS. Please check your plan or with your individual provider.
