    Join us for lunch, a performance by renowned concert pianist Simon Tedeschi, and an enlightening panel discussion on 'Hope in fractured times.'

    OUR PANELISTS

    Luul Ibrahim 

    Born in Somalia, Luul grew up in New Zealand and Australia. She is a dedicated and passionate advocate for multiculturalism and community empowerment. Luul's community roles include Founder of Somali Support in Perth, Director of the Australian Mental Health Foundation, and member of the Australian Multicultural Council. Luul has worked in Education for many years as an Early Childhood educator. She is currently working as an English as Additional Language Assistant at a Perth high school. Luul tragically lost her 3-year-old brother, Muad, in the Christchurch Mosque shooting, and is part of a network of survivors and victims of violent extremism and terrorism telling their stories to promote harmony and unity in Australia. Luul enjoys writing children's books, and is the author of two books inspired by her seven children.

    Uncle Ray Minniecon

    For over 40 years, Uncle Ray has worked to develop Indigenous ministries and advocate for First Nations peoples in Australia and internationally. A descendant of the Kabi Kabi and Gurang Gurang nations of South-East Queensland, South Sea Islander people, and with connections to Ambrym Island people, Uncle Ray lives in Sydney and, together with his wife Sharon, leads the Scarred Tree Indigenous Ministries at St John’s Anglican Church in Glebe. Uncle Ray has founded several community organisations that support the Stolen Generations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples more broadly. His advocacy work includes presentations at the United Nations in Geneva, COP26 (26th United Nations Climate Change Conference) in Glasgow, and a private audience with the Pope. In 2022, Ray was awarded the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation.

    Simon Tedeschi 

    Primarily known as a concert pianist, Simon is the recipient of prizes such as Symphony Australia’s Young Performer of the Year Award, first prize in the Keyboard division of the Royal Overseas League Competition (UK), and a Centenary of Federation Medal. He has performed in major concert halls and for festivals throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, and for various world leaders. As a writer, his first book, Fugitive, was released in May 2022 through Upswell and was shortlisted for both the Judith Wright Calanthe Award for Poetry and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. In May 2022, Simon was awarded the Calibre Essay Prize (Australian Book Review). simontedeschi.com

    Hugh Riminton (moderator) 

    Hugh Riminton is National Affairs Editor with TEN News First. As a foreign correspondent for Australian TV and CNN, he has extensive experience in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific. He also covers politics. Hugh's journalism awards include Walkleys and a Logie. He currently holds directorships with the Salaam Institute and the John Mac Foundation, which provides scholarships for students from refugee backgrounds. Hugh was also involved in establishing the veterans' support charity, Soldier On.
