A Toi Māori Exhibition celebrating local Māori artists and bringing together the finest Taonga across our rohe. We look forward to hosting a celebration for the Te Tauihu community after the devastating impact of the floods.

We are showcasing a number of regional and national artists.  Featuring 7 local artist of varying mediums.

Our first featured artist is Natalie Kere (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Apa, Ngāti Koata, Rangitane) is a Māori wāhine business owner and contemporary artist based in Whakatū. In her second to last year at school she was fortunate to have received a scholarship to New Zealand design and art college in Christchurch which blossomed her passion for art. She continued pursuing her passion as a hobby but after experiencing health issues, she was no longer able to work. With these obstacles in place, Natalie had to find a way to sustain her whānau from the comforts of her own home. She decided to pursue her passion full time venturing into her own business and that is how Natalie Kere Art was born.

Contemporary artist Natalie Kere is a jack of all trades when it comes to creativity. Working with a range of mediums from ink and paint work to detailed pounamu-inspired resin art. Natalie says the foundation of her pakihi tells the story of her journey of self-discovery and of her Whakapapa.It is the telling of her tupuna, the acknowledgement of their reality, the journey and their whakareretanga.

At the start of her business venture, she began exhibiting her pieces in galleries around Aotearoa and then branching out to Australia. Instagram was a key platform for her business which later led to being discovered by Artist Talk UK magazine. A week later she was asked to exhibit her art on a billboard in Times Square, New York. As a result of her exhibition in New York, she is now the first Māori to be asked to exhibit her art across the world at the Van Gough Museum. She is also 1 amongst a handful Māori Wahine to be asked to display her mahi in UK Vouges next issue this September. Because the feedback she received from NYC time square was so positive, she has been invited back again next year.
