Event description
Toji, the winter solstice in Japan, symbolises the harmony and balance of the life force and is a time to celebrate. Rooted in the philosophy of Ying & Yang, it is believed that the ‘ying’ of cold and darkness are at their most dominant on the shortest day of the year. Once this passes, the ‘yang’ of warmth and light will be upon us, and soon spring will return.
Field & Green’s Head Chef, Takuto Tanaka, will showcase traditional foods cooked for a Japanese Winter solstice. Seen as a time to eat seasonal vegetables that have the auspicious, sound of ’n’ in their name, this custom reflects the wisdom of eating healthy foods to keep one nourished over the winter.
