    Event description

In early 2023 Tom Woodward put down the guitar and embarked on a two month walk up the east coast of Australia, ending in a hospital stay and a hard-earned respect for the fragility of life. A year and a half later he got deported as an illegal alien from the USA. Composed in the twilit limbo between these two life shattering events, Revolving Doors is his new album.

Tom Woodward is a writer of strange but compelling songs. Hailing from Canberra, he honed his craft at Canberra's many cultural events and music venues, including You Are Here, The National Folk Festival, The Multicultural Fringe Festival, Sound & Fury, amongst many others. He has lived and played gigs in almost every Australian city. In between successful tours of Japan, the USA and Australia, he has recorded numerous albums both in a DIY arrangement and by employing producers, engineers and studios, including Melbourne’s Adam Casey (True Vine Studios), Yen Nguyen (10 Kinds of Handsome) and Nick Treweek (credits include The Drones and Augie March).

Inspired by the geographical and emotional landscapes he walked through, he defines his new sound as Australian Gothic, with undertones of old country, traditional folk and neoclassical influences.

He will be launching Revolving Doors at LongPlay on Thursday Sep 12, sharing the stage with former bandmates and ex-Canberran legends, Happy Axe and Mechanical Pterodactyl.
