Tomago House Investigation Night

Event description

This homestead is beloved to local ghost hunters and will thrill you as you experience the residual and intelligent encounters you have during this 2.5 hour paranormal ghost hunt.

It's normally out of bounds to us regular folks so make use of this opportunity!
Maria Windeyer moved into Tomago House in 1847 and the story goes that she still keeps a close eye on her homestead in the Hunter Valley.
Volunteers claim they can feel her and her family's presence as they continue the renovations of Port Stephens' only National Trust property.
Come along on one of a few rare nights open for us to investigate this heritage property. The underground cellars, trapdoors and attics all tell stories about the social history and status of the Windeyer family.
Maria became the mistress of Tomago House after her barrister husband Richard died just before they were due to move in.
She was forced to run affairs single handed and despite struggling financially, she made a success.
Jenny Lamont from Friends of Tomago House explains she even left her mark in the landscape.
"I think she must have had an idea about creating a park like the country houses in Britain ... this was her chance to create her own piece of heritage and aristocracy I guess," she says.

As the work continues to restore the estate to its former glory, those taking on the task say Maria is never far from their thoughts.
"Different people have different experiences but I myself spending so much time here it's my world ... it's just one of those things that happens and you learn to live with it."
It therefore comes as no surprise that Tomago House has become a favourite for ghost tours.

We will have our awesome small group experiences set up throughout the house/ cellar and chapel and attic spaces. You'll have time to take part in old fashioned spirit communication and modern ghost hunting technologies provided by Oz Para Tech.
