Tommerup's Country Dance at The Barn

Long before Farmer Wants a Wife, the country dances were the place where love blossomed for farmers and those wanting to snag themselves a farmer. Kay & Dave met at a country dance 30 years ago and for more than a decade it was their Saturday night ritual to head to one of the local dances, then later with the kids in tow. They were so much fun, and often kept going well after midnight. Over the years, the vibe changed, and our family stopped attending but we’ve missed the fun of the country dances. So, what better way to celebrate 150 years of farming on Central Kerry than to hold our very own country dance on the farm?!

Harry has been working hard finding modern country beats and funky 80s classics to go with our favourite lively old-time dances and we’ve locked in some groovy line dances too – sure to get those boots scootin’! Our galley kitchen has been our practice dance floor over the past few weeks as we match new songs with old dances.

We’re combining our favourite bits from the old-time country dances – the home baked supper, the monte carlo dance (minus the dodgy prizes), and being greeted with ‘hello’ by every single person as you make your way through the progressive barn dance! – with fabulous local food, wine & beer, the warmth of a camp fire, and old fashioned country hospitality. We’ll have the obligatory raffle too – with all proceeds going to Farm Angels who take care of farmers doing it a bit tough. We love their work!

Don’t stress if you don’t have a partner (perhaps you’ll meet your farmer on the night, just like Kay did all those years ago…), we’ll make sure you get the chance to get amongst it on the dance floor 😉 Speaking of dance floor, we've gone all out and hired a dance floor for The Barn just to make sure there's no excuse for not getting your groove on!

For those who’d like to stay overnight, we’ll have farm camping available (for fully self-contained campers only - NO facilities provided). Camping is also available locally at Darlington Park if you require amenities provided.

Numbers will be limited to ensure everyone can fit on the dance floor! Food and drink vendors will be on-site for you to purchase dinner and drinks.

Most of our farm events invite families to experience a slice of life on the farm. Due to the nature of this event including consumption of alcohol and open fires, entry is for persons over the age of 18 only.

We’re so looking forward to this event.
