ABOUT SERGE GAINSBOURH
Serge Gainsbourg (born 2 April 1928, passed away 2 March 1991) was a French singer-songwriter, actor, composer and director. He’s considered one of the most important people in French pop, known for his often shocking songs that stirred up a lot of debate in France. His music went from jazz, chanson and yé-yé to rock, zouk, funk, reggae and even electronica later on. It’s hard to put him into a box because of his different musical style and unique personality, but he’s definitely made a big impact and is often seen as one of the world’s most influential pop musicians.
Serge wrote over 550 songs, and they’ve been covered more than 1,000 times by all sorts of artists. His lyrics were full of wordplay, with funny, strange, provocative, sexual, satirical or even rebellious ideas. Since he passed away from a second heart attack in 1991, his music has become legendary in France. Even though he was a bit of a rebel in his time, he’s now one of France’s most beloved public figures. She’s explored all sorts of musical styles, from French chanson and jazz classics to continental jazz, cabaret, comedy and her own original songs. Fiona’s musical journey began in the cosy atmosphere of French cabaret nights and the unforgettable Jazz After Dark at the Victorian Arts Centre. While she’s performed on stage, her sultry and intimate style also shines in charming jazzy clubs.
No matter where she sings, her sultry and sophisticated style creates a special connection with her audience, making every performance as memorable as it is captivating.

Fiona Thorn -Vocalist
Fiona Thorn is a talented singer and language lover who can belt out tunes in eight languages! She’s explored all sorts of musical styles, from French chanson and jazz classics to continental jazz, cabaret, comedy and her own original songs. Fiona’s musical journey began in the cosy atmosphere of French cabaret nights and the unforgettable Jazz After Dark at the Victorian Arts Centre. While she’s performed on stage, her sultry and intimate style also shines in charming jazzy clubs. No matter where she sings, her sultry and sophisticated style creates a special connection with her audience, making every performance as memorable as it is captivating. Fiona studied at Melbourne University, where she majored in French and Linguistics, and Sorbonne University in Paris. As a language enthusiast, she sings in eight languages. Fiona is also a gifted writer, creating original CDs and cabaret shows, including the critically acclaimed musical All Het Up with Guy Rundle and John Thorn (nominated for 3 Green Room Awards), Million Sellers with Bob Downe (nominated for 3 Green Room awards), Max Gillies Live at the Club Republic and Silly Season.
John Thorn - Piano, MD
John Thorn is an Australian composer / pianist / songwriter / performer and musical director to the stars. He has composed scores for over 40 productions ranging from full-scale musicals to poetry song cycles, cabarets, and comedy shows. His work has been recognised with 15 Melbourne Green Room Awards nominations, winning three including the 2016 Contribution to Cabaret Award. His works have been presented around Australia at major venues and festivals as well as multiple performances internationally including North American tours and presentations at the Edinburgh Fringe and at prestigious London theatres and cabaret rooms. When he’s not playing music, he’s doing puzzles, going for long walks in the countryside and perfecting his sourdough.
Nigel Maclean - Violinist
Nigel, a renowned violinist, has held various roles, including Orchestral Leader, Solo Artist, Producer, Director (Filmharmonix), and Composer. His classical background transitioned to jazz, leading to a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. He’s a two-time National Bluegrass Champion. As a Solo Artist, he’s performed and recorded with Black Arm Band, Paul Kelly, Renee Geyer, John Denver, Joe Chindamo, Dan Hicks, Joe Camilleri, and Kate Ceberano. He worked for Academy nominee David Hirschfelder, contributing to soundtracks for Elizabeth, Sliding Doors, Better Than Sex, and What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted. He also provided improvisations for Underbelly, Angel Baby, Rage In Placid Lake, After the Deluge, and more. Nigel orchestrated and conducted the music for Geoffrey Wright’s Macbeth (2006) and composed music for the short film Forged, which won the Gold Medal for Excellence and Best Music in a Short Film at the Park City Film Music Festival (Utah, USA) in 2008. Nigel composed music for Jack Charles vs The Crown (produced by Ilbijerri Theatre and premiered at the Melbourne International Arts Festival 2010). This production won a Helpmann Award for Best Regional Tour of 2013 and performed seasons at the Barbican Centre in London, the Dublin Theatre Festival 2014, and New York and Toronto in 2017. Nigel, an educator, has led string improvisation workshops nationally and internationally for festivals and schools. His clients include the Victorian College of the Arts, Monash University, AUSTA, AMEB, and the Pan Pacific Fiddlers Festival.
Dan Whitton- Bass
Dan Witton is a musician and performer. He plays in various ensembles in Melbourne including Bush Gothic, The Wikimen, The Honeymooners and Saray IIuminado. He has performed widely in theatre, most recently in Meow Meow's Red Shoes at the Perth Festival and his own production of Cadence at La Mama's Explorations Festival.
Lance Sua- Guitarist
Lance Sua is a versatile guitarist, musical director, and educator with over 40 years’ experience spanning jazz, classical, pop, and musical theatre. Renowned for his sensitivity and collaborative spirit, he brings precision, depth, and heart to every project. Originally from New Zealand and based in Melbourne since 2016, Lance has performed with leading orchestras, top artists, and international productions. Alongside his performance and session career, he has held senior teaching roles at major universities. On stage, in the studio, or behind the scenes, Lance is trusted for his calm leadership, professionalism, and dedication to bringing out the absolute best in his collaborators.
