too munch w/ sasha venzin (communal dinner + cinema)
Event description
we're back with another 'too munch' episode in the loft ~ this time, a gorgeous two-part offering, courtesy of local purveyor of taste and film, sasha venzin :)
this is going to be a real culinary-cinematic hybrid, starting with a 5-course shared dinner on two long tables, and ending with a communal movie setting.
shared table ~ 5 courses by sasha venzin
sticky rice + sticky pork + sticky mushrooms
som tum 3 ways
tom yum w/ clams & mussels
massaman curry of slow-cooked beef cheek and grilled seasonal fruit
caramelised banana x dulce de leche x coconut
neighbourhood cinema ~ 8 ½ (1963)
the film is a 1964 italian classic by the great federico fellini. starring marcello mastroianni in the role of a struggling film director, this semi-autobiographical drama beautifully portrays the era of the early 60s and addresses ageless issues with fellini’s distinctive slightly surrealistic wit and humour.

having moved several continents and countries, sasha now calls meanjin her home, and opts not to call herself a chef, but more of a curious culinary enthusiast. back in 2017, she fell in love with thai cuisine, moving to bangkok where she lived and worked for 2 years—travelling and gaining experience, the majority of which includes working at the multi-awarded indian/thai restaurant gaggan. locally, sasha has spent her time at establishments like longtime, samesame and essa. having recently stepped away from the hustle and bustle of a full-time kitchen job, she wants to explore and share her love for food and film in a less formal environment.
this episode of too munch will be a casual shared dining + community cinema experience in the loft, and we ask guests to be comfortable sharing space with the unknown. please note that unfortunately we won’t be able to cater to certain diaries due to the nature of cuisine; however gluten-free, pescatarian, and vegetarian options are available upon request—please advise of any dietary preferences not less than 48 hours prior to the event.
