Take a tour of Balmoral Hillside House, a Brisbane home reimagined to dissolve the boundary between house and garden, suburb and hillside.
Balmoral Hillside House is a reconfiguration of a faux Queenslander in the inner-east Brisbane suburb of Balmoral. Despite its hillside site affording expansive views from the upper level, the owners wanted to forge strong connections to the garden for their three young boys.
The new site diagram breaks down public and private space in a graduated manner from street to bedrooms, with different aspects of the site and suburb revealed only as one is invited deeper into the private realm. The edges dissolve to draw the landscape into the house, quite literally.
