Event description
Gallery Tour: Graphic Voices of Latin America
Graphic Voices of Latin America exhibition at the WaterFire Arts Center Gallery showcases a powerful collection of Latin American posters that serve as both artistic expressions and historical documents of resistance, resilience, and cultural identity. Curated by José R. Menéndez and Tatiana Gómez of Buena Gráfica Social Studio, this exhibition presents graphic works from 16 countries across Latin America, spanning themes from political activism and environmental concerns to cultural storytelling. The collection highlights a diversity of printing techniques, typographic styles, and visual languages, including the work of La Linterna, a historic print shop in Cali, Colombia, known for its striking movable-type posters. By amplifying the voices of Latin American and Latinx designers, Gráfica Latina explores how graphic design has shaped and responded to the region’s dynamic social and political landscapes.
The one-hour guided tour led by José and Tatiana will offer insight into the diverse collection of posters on display, highlighting their artistic techniques, cultural significance, and the social, economic, and political contexts in which they were created.
