Tour of Wavell Heights Garden Pavilion

Discover Wavell Heights Garden Pavilion, a subtropical Brisbane home reimagined to open family life to breezes, light, and landscape.

The project reworks a post-war home into a dedicated bedroom wing, with a new living pavilion extending into the garden. Stepping down to a concrete slab-on-ground, the pavilion introduces thermal mass to moderate internal temperatures year-round, while generous openings, operable windows, and careful orientation work together to capture prevailing breezes and promote natural ventilation.

Material selection balances durability and warmth, with low-maintenance finishes suited to the subtropics. The existing home was upgraded throughout, including insulation, replastering, and refreshed original timber floors, ensuring the whole house performs as a cohesive and comfortable environment.

The result is a home that feels calm, connected, and highly liveable, where thoughtful planning, passive design, and a strong relationship to the garden support the rhythms of everyday family life.
