Step inside a post-war Queenslander transformed in three stages to be open, sustainable, and deeply connected to garden and community.

Purchased after the 2011 floods with a clear understanding of its challenges, the home had been slowly suffocated by poorly planned 1990s renovations that blocked light, trapped heat, and cut the interior off from the garden and street. The response was pragmatic and unhurried - a three-stage renovation guided by what would make the most impact on daily life.

Internal walls came down to create a cross-ventilated breezeway, new decks drew the living spaces into the garden, and a flexible pod at the rear - its pitched roof evoking draped fabric, a nod to the owner's love of sewing - brought together home office, guest room, and recreation space in one generous retreat.

Out front, an open fence and integrated street seat quietly transformed the home's relationship with its neighbourhood, turning a private threshold into a small act of community. A house that once turned its back on the world now holds its arms open to it.
